01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Tucked into a quiet corner near the residential streets of Asagaya-minami, Izara is an intimate wine bar where you can linger over a glass without ceremony. The blackboard and regular menu feature modest, affordable small plates reminiscent of rustic Western European home cooking—think cod and potato gratin, stewed tripe, and simmered white beans from northern regions.
Sardine escabeche heaped with vegetables or a Spanish omelet makes an ideal light opening bite alongside wine. The kitchen also turns out nourishing bowls like bean and root vegetable soup, as well as more substantial meat dishes such as gently braised, tender pork.
Beyond approachable wines by the glass and bottle, the drinks list extends to draft beer and shochu, leaving plenty of room to pair drinks freely with whatever you order. Whether stopping in for a quick drink and a chat with the owner during an evening out, or settling in for a quiet solo dinner, the atmosphere welcomes either rhythm naturally.
Izara opens in the evening, and payment is cash only. It is the kind of neighborhood spot you drop into on a whim for wine and unpretentious, carefully made food.
